Dear friends,
It is a matter of great pleasure for me to share with you the first report of SACP’s relief work in areas affected by floods. The “flood relief report of the 20th October” is attached. Please, visit our website: www.sacppakistan.org.pk to find out more information on our projects and efforts.
The particular project report is based on a relief activity conducted on 20 October 2010. South Asia Centre for Peace distributed blankets among the victims of floods in a village of Raheem Yar Khan. The president of SACP, Mr. Zahur Ahmed Choudhri himself distributed 108 good quality blankets to over 57 families, comprising a population of around 500. The blankets were distributed to prepare homeless people for the upcoming winters. On this occasion, the women, especially the widows were given special consideration.
In future, SACP is looking forward to further provide financial and material assistance to the affected communities of district Raheem Yark Khan; the remote region badly affected by the disaster.
We realize that we couldn’t have done this all alone therefore we are thankful to many individuals from the United Nations mandated University for Peace (UPEACE) and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) in Costa Rica, the Australian National University (ANU) and the University of New England in Australia for their generosity towards SACP’s relief operations in Pakistan. In particular, we are indebted to Prof. Amr Abdalla and Mr. Oscar Morera Herrera of the UPEACE, Ms. Arantxa Villanueva of the IACHR, and Dr. Bina D’Costa of the ANU for helping us in collecting donations from their institutions. In addition, there were dozens of others who contributed towards the noble effort of SACP and we are grateful to them. We also wish to appreciate the cooperation of Mr. Zagham Ghaffar of Al-Ghaffar Welfare & Education Society towards organizing the relief activity in his area.
With best regards,
Zahid Shahab Ahmed
